Join us for a viewing of Laj Waghray’s 75-minute film On Hands, made for the Look Here! Project, currently showing at Villa Terrace!
As a visual documentarian, Laj Waghray utilizes the power of film to evoke the sense of touch. Her film On Hands explores the way hands become a means of expression and creation while capturing the sheer pleasure and satisfaction that makers gain by using their hands. On Hands was inspired by artists’ books in the UWM Special Collections Library featuring hands as a subject, as well as the Milwaukee Handicraft Project, a program created in 1935 to provide employment for Americans affected by the Great Depression.
At a time when our experiences are mediated through technology and our social interactions become distanced with social media, this film brings our attention back to an essential way of experiencing the world.
Free with regular museum admission.
