Grounded
October 27, 2022 – March 05, 2023
Three rising, Midwest artists explore narratives of identity and relationships with space and socio-political systems in "Grounded" at the Villa Terrace.
"Grounded" is a sculpture-based exhibition that introduces the practices of Nick Drain, Sydnie Jimenez, and Z Moralez, who use materials derived from the Earth at a molecular level. Plaster, clay, glass, and more will be represented through formal and experimental installations throughout the second-floor galleries of the Museum. The root word, “ground,” holds diverse interpretations. It can refer to the stolen soil beneath our feet, or it can allude to the awareness of one’s body. The word can draw our attention to our senses, commanding us to notice the space we take up in our environment.
Bringing us to Earth, Grounded presents work exploring surveillance, radical self-expression, and the impermanence of memory.
Viewers are invited to observe how artists think critically of who they surround themselves with, their resistance to socio-political systems, and how they portray personal experiences.
Grounded opens Oct. 27, 2022 and runs through March 5, 2023.
Opening night will feature live music, food and remarks. All are welcome. Admission is free. Doors open 6 p.m.
Museum members get an exclusive preview before the event at 5 p.m.
