"Disruptive Ecologies" is a group exhibition that delves into how artists wield their practices to challenge oppressive systems and forge connections with communities, their inner selves, and the Earth. Featuring artists Lois Bielefeld, Vanessa Filley, Tanya Gill, Rita Grendze, Tulika Ladsariya, Nirmal Raja, and Marzena Ziejka, the exhibition transforms the Villa Terrace Art Museum into a space where history is interrogated and new narratives emerge.
The artists featured in this exhibition employ contemporary craft, decorative arts, photography, video, sculpture, printmaking, and gardening to turn their creative power into acts of resistance. Some have created new works specifically inspired by the history, architecture, and collection of the museum, weaving these elements into their critiques of domestic labor and colonialism, and reflecting on how these pasts shape our present.
The title, "Disruptive Ecologies," embodies the exhibition's core: it embraces the tension of caring for history while critically examining its legacies. This show invites viewers to see art as a powerful tool for connection and change, inspiring us to envision a more just and interconnected world.
